I realized today when I was in the midst of this epic recipe (epic because of my life, not because it’s inherently difficult…) a few things. I realized that I love cooking, as a way of marking out the time and place, of making something special, sacred if you will…remembered. I understood that recently I’ve […]

Sweet Potato Snacks

March 24, 2013

Looking for a quick and healthy snack as we transition from cold winter to warmer spring days? Look no further than the king of the root veggies–in my humble opinion–the sweet potato. This is the quickest snack if you have an oven and a knife–basically–so I won’t make a long post about it. I make […]

Kale is for Kool Kids

March 12, 2013

Yes.The Kale Craze. I admit I jumped on the bandwagon a bit after it had reached some fever-pitched hyping–(but appropriately so, say many trusted sources). But I’m not about to let this be just another health food fad…more on my concerns with those later… Our first summer of CSA we received dino kale a few […]

D is for Detox

February 1, 2013

I just went through a wonderful whole foods 12 day detox. Yep, after the holidays I knew I could use a little help…I was eating and craving the stuff I knew wasn’t good for me and babe–so time to reset and bring back the good habits–and hopefully even build on them towards better habits:) I […]

Comfort Food for a Crowd

March 27, 2012

Yes indeed, roast chicken and buttermilk biscuits, perfect for a chilly March evening sitting around with friends, new and old. The alternate title for this post could be: Life is too short to count calories… The roast chicken is insanely easy; and a great price point for feeding a bunch (TJs for about a dollar […]

Roasted Veggie Pizza

November 28, 2011

I came up with this pizza one Sunday afternoon while running–do other people think about food while they run too? I was puzzling over how to use what was in the fridge (cauliflower and broccoli–two winners!). After I “pitched” the idea, my husband made these dreams into a melt-in-our-mouths reality. We liked both the white […]

Fall Quiche

October 20, 2011

This morning while grabbing Aussie coffee before heading to the park, the special dish on the chalkboard at the MilkBar caught my eye. It was a roasted tomato and corn quiche. Brilliant. So simple. We have those two veggies in abundance right now. Thanks CSA. I decided to make it happen. First, roast tomatoes and […]

Exactly as it appears–easy and delicious. Roast the following, and whatever else you have around that sounds good: Dino Kale (sprinkle with a bit of sugar as well as olive oil to bring out a wonderful rich sweetness). Red onions Garlic Summer squash Throw in bacon, basil and feta and serve warm or chilled.

Beets, Swiss Chard and Feta

July 16, 2011

Delicious! A summer-time treat; we served it lukewarm with a main dish of cous-cous, sausages, asparagus, yellow squash (CSA) and spices. The swiss chard’s most beautiful part, the stems, are a subject of debate amongst online recipe providers–it appears that Italians say–“Use em” while others tend to toss out. We went with the second method, […]
